About Christian and EcoAct Tanzania

Christian Mwijage is a Tanzanian social entrepreneur with a passion for recycling and environmental issues. He is the founder and Managing Director of EcoAct Tanzania – a for-profit social enterprise that utilizes plastic waste and transforms it into environmentally friendly plastic lumber. This plastic lumber is an affordable alternative to timber, which reduces the need for building material manufactured from wood. This helps to preserve forests by lowering deforestation rates and decreasing the effects of climate change.

EcoAct was listed as one of New York Forum Africa 2015’s “Top 50 Most Innovative Start-Up Companies in Africa” and in October 2015 they won the second position in Seed Star Words Tanzania Awards.

In 2016 Christian and EcoAct won the GIST Boot Camp in Johannesburg and were featured in Forbes.

Christian is currently looking for funding to buy new machines, which will enable him to scale the production of plastic lumber and meet his customers’ increasing demands.
